What is Collagen?
Find out exactly what collagen is and how you can reap multiple benefits from this essential powerhouse protein. From firmer skin to stronger nails and healthy hair, we reveal how collagen can help you feel your ABSOLUTE best…
So, what is collagen?
Collagen is a natural protein found in our skin, hair, nails, bones, and connective tissues, responsible for keeping things smooth, strong, and supported. It’s best to think of collagen as your body’s building blocks or scaffolding, providing the structure and elasticity to keep everything in place.
But as we age, our body’s natural collagen production slows down – which is when we start to notice those pesky fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of firmness in our skin. By taking collagen supplements, however, you can top up your natural reserves and minimise those signs of ageing.
What is collagen made of?
Collagen is made up of amino acids – primarily glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline – which are essential for building and repairing tissue. In fact, this wonder protein makes up around 70% of the dry mass of our skin and forms the extracellular matrix (a fancy term for the network that keeps our skin resilient and bouncy).
Animal bones, skin, and connective tissue are common sources of collagen, such as those found in cows and pigs (bovine and porcine, respectively). However, our marine collagen is made from the scales of fish – which is scientifically proven as one of the best sources of collagen.

What is collagen good for?
Everybody loves collagen as it keeps skin looking smooth, firm, and plump – basically, all the things that help you feel radiant and youthful. What’s more, collagen also supports hair and nail growth.
Unfortunately, however, our natural collagen levels start to decline from the age of 25. But don’t worry – adding collagen to your daily routine can help replenish these levels, reducing the appearance of fines line and wrinkles and keeping skin looking its absolute best. That’s why collagen is now a top ingredient in beauty and wellness supplements for restoring and maintaining radiant, resilient skin.

Where's collagen found?
Beyond being naturally found in the human body, collagen is sourced from animals such as fish, chickens, cows, and pigs. For our supplements, Absolute Collagen uses Type 1 marine collagen, which is known for its superior absorption rate — up to 1.5 times faster than other collagen types. This marine-based collagen is not only effective, but also free from common, animal-derived health risks, giving you both the highest quality AND optimal results.
